Holidays and milestones!

Its been awhile since Ive written in your blog Carly, mommy has been busy with you! We took a trip over to the island to see your new cousin who weighed the same as you did when you were born. Its amazing to see how much you have grown in the past almost 6 months. On our walk today I got you weighed and you now weigh 17lbs 3oz! So much has changed and its just incredible how life works. You have outgrown all your tiny stuff and wearing 12 month clothing and a few days ago Mommy and Daddy went shopping and bought you a new coat and jammies. Mommy also bought you a cute shirt that says "sisters rock" Angela really gets a kick out of it and its special when you wear it. You are sitting in your jumperoo right now wearing that shirt and a pair of jeans. So cute! You just love that jumperoo so much and it just melts my heart to watch you so happy.

We went for a long walk today as mommy wanted to buy you a grip matt for under your feeding chair as you kick around so much that you actually can get the chair to slide across the table. We want no accidents with the baby girl and this helps. You have many different foods you like now, especially bananas. You tried pears, blueberries and greenbeans as well and still dont like carrots, but will eat them as a mixed vegetable.

Your newest thing is to stand on daddy's lap and squeal at the top of your lungs. Its incredibly amazing that someone so tiny can make so much noise, but its your special time with daddy and we think its so funny. You blow bubbles and raspberries at everyone and smile to your many fans when we go out. You need to grow some more hair though as this lady thought you were a boy! I had a hat on you so it was hard to see that you were wearing earings.

We sold the pram last week, and it was so hard to see it go but you are really rolling over well and I dont want you to climb out and get hurt. You still only roll the one way though (from your back to your belly) and get really upset when you get stuck and we have to rescue you. The play mat on the floor is your great joy now as well. You sleep really well in your crib and mommy turns on your music box and gives you your suckie which you just chew on. You prefer your thumb to go to sleep with. You like to talk and babble to just about anyone who will listen and sister loves to read to you. Angela still has her time alone with you at night when she will put your jammies on. We have to put the safety belt on you now as you almost rolled off the change table.

A few new milestones...

This afternoon I decided to put you on the floor on your playmat and as I sat and watched you you went over on your side to get a toy and werent satisified with that toy and decided to roll right over! I held my breath as you did it! My baby is growing up! You looked up at me with the proudest look Ive ever seen on you!

A few days ago you had some apple juice in a bottle and sippy cup. I mixed it with half water and half apple juice so it wouldnt bother your tummy. You loved that! Slurped it right up. Today I gave you some pureed apples which you enjoyed quite abit as well. So you now eat three meals a day. Rice cereal for breakfast (about 2 tblspoons) half a jar of fruit for lunch (only apples so far) and half a jar of vegetables for dinner. You tried green beans for the first time lastnight and you liked those. You are still not that fussy about carrots so mommy isnt going to feed you those again for awhile. You like peas, squash, sweet potatoes and green beans so far.

You have been quite cranky again these past few days, mommy isnt sure why. I thought it was because of teeth coming in, but no teeth so far. I believe you were a bit constipated from the cereal so I started the apple juice sooner than I wanted to. I went to the store today to get you some prunes because I was hoping this would help. When I got home from the store you had already pooped and were quite happy again. So I asked daddy, which should be your first fruit...apples or prunes? We choose apples as you have already had apple juice so we know your tummy could handle that.

You are now asleep my sweets. Sleep has been a struggle for you as well. It took me over an hour to finally get you to sleep lastnight and you had a tough time getting to sleep for your afternoon nap as well. Just lots of crying which mommy and daddy dont allow so we pick you up and cuddle with you. Mommy let you sleep with her a bit lastnight and you drifted off with your cheek on mommy's chest. You just sighed and fell asleep: poor baby. You slept fine the entire night though and was up earlier than you usually wake up and slept in the crib during the day.

A good visit

You took a ferry ride across the water to Vancouver Island then a drive to Port Alberni where you visited your Aunties and cousins. You have a new cousin names Zoey and she is so cute! You looked at her and wanted to touch her but your not that good with gentle yet so its not a good idea just yet to play with your cousin. We left on Saturday morning and were home Sunday night. You are a real homebody and started to complain a bit as your routine was all mixed up. You were so happy to be home again to your beloved Jumperoo.

You are really working hard on your fine motor skills these past few days. You are more interested in playing with the nipple on the bottle and other smaller things. You pucker your lip out in concentration and its so neat to watch you. It takes you awhile but when you finally get what you want you look so happy. You can roll over to your side now and take a toy from beside you. You actually managed to put your own suckie in your mouth while on our walk today.

We walked down to the bus and went for a ride which you really enjoyed as you can see whats going around you. You do jump a bit when the big trucks go by still, but dont cry. Mommy bought you your very first baby doll today and you just love her!! You hug her, kiss her, chew her face and eat these little entenae that stick out of its head. Im hoping to keep this dolly for you to see when you grow up. Her name is 'dolly' and give big smiles when she is in your arms.

We are going to have to get you some new clothes soon my dear. You are growing so fast that its hard to keep up with you! You are in a small yellow sleeper with a doggy on the front that is looking pretty tight in the toes so I guess it will be the last time you wear this one. Mommy will pack it away to give to Zoey. You also had major hat head because your pink winter hat is too small as well. Mommy bought you a new one today with matching mittens. I bought it in 18-24 month size so maybe you can wear it next year too. Zoey looked so tiny next to you and she weighed the same exact weight that you did!

You are playing in your jumperoo right now and screaming at the top of your lungs which is another new thing you do. Im pretty sure daddy taught you how to do that though! You can be quite loud but oh so happy!!

You had peas and sweetpotatoes this week for your new food. You didnt like the peas that much but liked the sweetpotatoes quite abit. You also had a taste of fruit yogurt which you loved so much you were smacking your lips.

Real food!

You had carrots for the first time a few days ago and really didnt like them much. Daddy got some pretty good pictures of the yucky faces you were making. The night after you still didnt like them much so mommy wont be feeding you anymore carrots for awhile. You did enjoy the creamed corn though! Your little bird mouth was wide open for that. Too cute. You also had your very first Farley biscuit today which you really loved. What a mess though! You waved your arms around and shook your head back and forth and kicked your legs all at the same time so there was cookie everywhere.

You cough and make this choking noise this week for attention. You make these interesting noises and look for me or daddy and grin when we say "oh my goodness!" Its a game for you and one you love to play. Mommy has to stop paying you attention when you make those noises though or you will be coughing all the time and everyone will think you are sick. Its funny to hear you though.

We went for a long walk you and I today. We left the house and walked to the Health Unit where I got you weighed and measured. You are now 16lbs 3oz and 26 3/4 inches long. My big girl! After that we walked to the dollar store and bought a few things we needed, like a baby card for your new cousin Zoe who was born on December 31st. Almost a New Year baby! We also bought a few bibs for her and a book for Angela to fill out called "My sister and me" We had fun today filling that book out and now it will go into your keepsake box so you can read it when you are old enough. We left the dollar store and you were asleep by this time. This was the first walk in your big girl chair in the stroller. We took the pram part off it after Christmas and you really like it better this way so you can see things around you. You love to look at the cars driving by and jump when the big trucks zoom past. We walked over to the grocery store and mommy bought you a few more jars of baby food. Green beans and sweet potatoes this time and those Farley biscuits. We had to quickly get home after this as it was starting to rain. You woke up about half way home and whined a bit as you were starting to get hungry so you had a bottle of formula in the stroller while mommy walked.

We are going to Vancouver Island to see your new cousin tomorrow and will write how that goes. Of course we will take some pictures of you meeting her for the first time. Zoe weighed exactly the same as you did when you were born so it will be neat to see how much you have grown in the past five months. I have a few things to give the new mom from you like your bumpers, some clothing and slippers. I am giving her the breast pump too as I dont use it anymore and also the snugglie which you will be happy about as you hate that thing anyway.

Your hand reaches past the side of the pram now so its almost time for the crib. Night my darling. Mommy and Daddy love you so much

Cranky girl!

These past few days havent been the best for you my sweets. You have been a cranky bird. I think you might be getting some teeth soon and your gums are sore. You made a lot of noises in your sleep lastnight and kept waking up daddy as he was worried about you. I hope today is better for you as it hurts me to see my baby not happy. You have been cooped up in the house as the snow is so heavy outside that mommy hasnt been able to take you for any walks, so tonight mommy took you with her and Angela for her swimming. You really enjoyed getting out in the stroller and watching sister swim. You never fussed the entire time and I think part of your fussiness was due to cabin fever. Poor baby!

Your favourite thing to do this week is to jump in the 'roo' we call it. We sing jumperoo, jumperoo!! and you laugh and jump quite well. Your toes are pointed and get that thing going pretty good and just love it so much! Maybe you will be a ballerina! You look so pretty when you jump with pointed toes. Another thing you really love is baths. We dont use the infant tub anymore as you are too big for it and you dont like it that you cant kick your feet and wave your arms around. Mommy will start swimming lessons when you are six months old! Lastnight mommy gave you a bath all by yourself for the first time in the big tub and you laughed and kicked around while sister and I talked with you.

You still blow us all raspberries and the newest thing you do is blow them while mommy is feeding you. Yesterday you sneezed while mommy was feeding you and cereal got all over the couch and mommy. You thought this was pretty funny and giggled. When mommy changes a particularly dirty diaper or you sneeze she will say "Oh my goodness!!" And you laugh so hard!

You are getting so big Carly. You have outgrown your tiny stuff. Mommy has a garbage bag full of stuff that you have outgrown already! I dont want you to grow so fast though but you are so happy that you can sit up on our lap and look around. You can shake a rattle and your favorite toy is these rings we have that have different textures. Of course they go right into your mouth for a good taste too. The swing isnt so fun for you anymore as you cant sit up it in. Now that Christmas is over and company isnt sleeping in your room anymore we are going to start your naps in your big girl bed. Daddy thinks its time to move you into the crib at nights soon and its hard on mommy as she still wants you close. Tonight I will remove the bumpers from the pram as you move around so much in there that they end up at the bottom anyway. Ahhh you are so big! So tall....I found a 12 month sized track suit in your stash of summer clothing that mommy has been gathering up at sales and it fit you! I was pretty shocked to say the least. You are only five months old and wearing a 12 month sized track suit! When did you get so big???

You are still sleeping and its almost 9 30 am and should be waking up soon and very hungry. Cereal is going quite well and you love that stuff. Angela tasted it and was grossed out haha. Soon we will start strained foods and will write here what your first vegetable was. I fed you the first cereal at night and it was just one tablespoon. You are now eating two tablespoons and in the afternoon. Everyday we move the time down a bit and when we get so that when you are eating cereal in the morning, we will introduce some vegetables in the evenings. Then when we get that down to the afternoons, we will introduce fruits which we will feed to you in the afternoons and you will get vegetables in the evenings. The idea is to feed you three times a day. Cereal in the morning, fruit in the afternoons and vegetables and eventually meats in the evenings.

Tonight you had a tiny taste of mommys dinner! You seemed more interested in playing with the spoon than actually eating any of the mashed potatoes and carrots that I put on it for you. Earlier on I gave you a large piece of cold raw carrot which you seemed to enjoy alot. I think its soothing on your gums. You are now asleep in your pram without the bumpers and are so far having a good sleep.
